“Steve G. I’mma wreckin machine I coulda got first place on the wrestling team”
Steve G. is the name he put on his school papers as a kid. His real first name, first initial of his last.
The lack of a gimmicky rap name may be unusual in the present day, but it made sense to Steve from the beginning, he’s a no-gimmicks kind of guy. He thought about it once but couldn’t settle on anything fearing most of the names out there are either too conscious or too stupid. He jokes about the fork in the road between combinations of thought, knowledge, and pharaoh vs. combinations of money, paper, young, and swagger.
Steve G. the artist started rapping at a young age in Sandusky, Ohio with his older cousins. Although the youngest in the crew, he became known as one of the fiercest spitters. Being a huge fan of sports his raps were filled with punchlines about the heroes he knew growing up – Berny Kosar, Kenny Lofton, Barry Sanders and Maurice Clarett.
As he grew older he decided to study film at the University of Bowling Green in Ohio where he linked up with Ron Jero of the Great Lakes Crew. The two partnered up, and Steve became the 5th MC of the GLC. His hard edge gave the party-rapping Lakes Crew an entirely new dimension and sound. After just a few appearances on wax, people couldn’t get enough of anything Steve G. touched.
Steve stands alone, and he’s fine with it. His forthcoming debut “The One Gig Kid” is destined to be a classic amongst hip-hop heads, dboys, 80′s babies, and blogerati.
While you shouldn’t expect to hear any dope selling, pimping, or gun slinging, you’ll still here Steve talk about real life growing up in “the Dusk”.
His debut record features sharp lyricism, hard ass beats, and a sound reminiscent to theme music from Castlevania mixed with DJ Premier.
